Since my recent trip to Palm Springs, California, breeze blocks have been on my mind. They are iconic components of mid century modern home designs popular in that area during the 1950s and 1960s and they can often be found incorporated into walls as screens or even used as part of architecture as walls themselves.
Breeze blocks provide both ventilation and privacy protection from sun rays. As they’re structural, breeze blocks can also act as support structures in lieu of framing for extra support. They have made a comeback as architectural elements due to their ornamental look and vintage vibe, becoming especially popular in hotter climates like North America and Australia. I found many creative modern uses for breeze blocks that could add decorative accents into various home styles as decorative features.
