My first week in Oregon was my first experience there, yet being so close by. On my road trip I visited Ashland, Portland and Hood River before driving the entire Oregon coastline back home all the way back to California. While driving was tiring but my goal was to see its mountains, rivers and towns.
Before crossing into Oregon from California, I traversed various northern counties. Golden plains grew into hills then mountains covered with forests as I made my way towards the Pacific Northwest. Just as dusk settled upon me crossing into Oregon from California where semis raced past me at high speeds almost knocking me over! At one point on Oregon highway I stopped on side to photograph “Welcome to Oregon” sign.
As darkness fell I arrived in Ashland, Oregon just in time to make the last reservation for dinner downtown. While dining under globe lights in an outdoor cafe I met and struck up conversation with a theater manager from Ashland who offered a quick walking tour after dinner of various sights I should see during daylight – always helpful people always have great advice! Friendly locals always have helpful tips and remind me how kind strangers can be.
I set off walking early the next morning to explore Ashland during daylight and took photos with my phone. Ashland may be known for its theater productions, but what will stand out most to me was its small town charm – highlights including: Lithia Park with all of its charming shops and restaurants; Ashland Springs Hotel interior that will transport you back in time; charming shops near Lithia Park that make it feel more homely.
