Aren’t we all in Europe now? After two summers of not making it there, it comes as no surprise to find so many visiting. In May, I took advantage of an opportunity to visit Spain’s east coast for 10 days with my bestie travel friend; one stop on our itinerary was Ibiza Island which had long been on my travel wishlist.
Ibiza, located off of Barcelona’s Balearic Islands, can only be accessed by air or ferry. Our ferry was considerably larger than we imagined – in fact it’s actually a cargo ship fitted out for passenger use with sleeping quarters for overnight journeys! Semitrucks loaded onto and off these giant ferries quickly; we witnessed semitrucks transport goods on such an enormous scale! After crossing the Mediterranean from Barcelona to Ibiza over night journey we awoke with crew members knocking at our doors to remind us offload our belongings among cargo trucks, cars, and fellow passengers!
After dropping our luggage off at our hotel at dawn, we enjoyed exploring Old Town Ibiza on our own with its bright lamppost lights still lit as the sun slowly rose over the harbor to cast its gentle rays onto boats parked in its marina.
For an hour we roamed through the old town streets admiring its whitewashed buildings with colorful shutters and laundry hung to dry in Europe-style. At first, only pigeons shared these streets until later that morning when cafes started opening up for business.
