My past belief was that autumn harvest season was the ideal time to visit Northern California Wine Country, but with all of the recent wildfires I now prefer spending my time amongst the vines during spring.
Yesterday I took advantage of our gorgeous weather in late April and early May to spend an afternoon exploring one of Napa County’s gems – Calistoga. Being on a weekday meant less people were present; wineries have opened back up with restrictions; entry requires social distancing masks.
Calistoga, located at the northern end of Napa Valley, is a popular destination due to its art scene and proximity to world-famous wineries. Once known for mud baths and hot springs, nowadays people come for spa treatments and small town atmosphere. Although easily walkable, many prefer bicycles for travel while taking in its outdoor beauty and visiting some nearby wineries – many hotels provide bikes for guest convenience!
