My girlfriends and I found affordable tickets to Italy and traveled there together in October. Our destinations were Venice, Florence and Verona; arriving by plane into Venice then traveling by train between those cities.
Verona, Italy is best-known as the setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and located along the River Adige. Once colonized by Rome due to its navigable river, Verona now serves as an artistic center in northern Italy just west of Venice and thrives today as a vibrant smaller city.
Verona was an intimate town that felt more like home than a tourist destination. Although known for the Juliet balcony attraction and first century amphitheater, our favorite things about Verona were river views, meandering streets, cafes in every piazza, blue skies highlighting pastel buildings lining its streets, river walks along shady waterways – we even experienced blue skies on one lucky occasion!
Nothing beats sitting in a cafe people watching while tasting local cuisine set against centuries old architecture; my favorite aspect of any trip abroad. Here are a few snapshots from my two day exploration of Verona plus an experience learning homemade pasta making!
